The Jocelyn Bain Hogg ‘20’ exhibition: ‘Smile Please’
One of the noblest objectives of photography must be to raise a smile and so much of Jocelyn’s work does. Through unerringly thoughtful choice of subject and an expert ability to recognize, contrive or capture a unique moment of fun, his images have a cleverness, charm and humour that disdain pretension and deliver something that makes you feel better again and again.
Limited to an edition of only 5 each, this ‘Smile Please’ collection has been curated especially and is exclusive to 20ltd. It contains images from 4 series of his work from the last 8 years:
The Firm 2001: a searing photographic document of the British organized crime world - the real thing, the men who hold their head up when challenged, and who seek no false redemption in the face of public vilification.
Pleasure Island 2006: a beautifully objective journey through the heady days and nights of an Ibiza summer.
Idols + Believers 2007: captures a refreshing and intelligent documentary view of celebrity and the nature of fame in the 21st Century, calling into question our apparently insatiable appetite for all things famous.
London – Tired of Life 2008: a poignant portrait of the straining and jaded guts of the city.
